This rad tee commemorates the predecessor to Verizon Communications, Bell Atlantic. Bell Atlantic was one of the largest telephone providers in the US during the 80s and 90s. The corporation was actually a collection of several companies that serviced the mid-Atlantic states of New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, and the city of Washington, D.C. This shirt is from an ad campaign from 1997. Bell Atlantic launched the "Heart of Communication" ad campaign to counter negative ads about their service that were being sponsored by competitors, MCI. Bell Atlantic changed its name to Verizon Communications in 2000 when the company merged with GTE.
