This shirt has an amazing graphic of the cover art from Sponge's debut album, Rotting Pinata. Sponge members met in Detroit, from working class families. Originally forming a band called Loudhouse in the 80s they were signed by Virgin Records. After not receiving the attention they deserved, and being dropped by Virgin the band decided to reform as Sponge. Original Sponge members include Vinnie Dombroski (vocalist), Mike Cross (guitar), Tim Cross (bassist), Jimmy Paluzzi (drummer), and Joey Mazzola (guitar). With more effort to follow their own sound, Rotting Pinata, was released in 1995, and became a huge hit.
Singles from the album such as "Plowed," and "Molly (16 Candles Down the Drain)" were heavily played on MTV's "Buzz Bin," skyrocketing Rotting Pinata to gold by the end of the year.
Sponge's songs have been featured in at least two Kevin Smith movies, Mallrats and Chasing Amy, as well as cult classic The Craft.
