This amazing vintage t-shirt is a promotional keepsake from back when Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace premiered in 1999. The movie was George Lucas's first directorial endeavor after a 22 year hiatus following the original Star Wars film from 1977, and fans were eager to see more of the franchise they loved so dearly. Although it was the fourth Star Wars film produced, The Phantom Menace was the first in a series of prequels that explained how Darth Vader came to be the formidable villain shown in the originals and how the Galactic Empire rose to power.
Reception towards the movie was mixed. While fans embraced the updated visual effects and exciting action sequences, they were less enthralled by the screenplay and the introduction of polarizing characters like Jar Jar Binks, who many fans found to be annoying. Despite these critiques, The Phantom Menace was the highest-grossing film in the US in 1999, which just shows how excited people were to see the Star Wars universe extended.
This shirt features three of the most beloved characters introduced in the movie, Jedi knights Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn ,who were portrayed by Ewan McGregor and Liam Neeson respectively, and the delightfully evil Darth Maul. Darth Maul was a Sith warrior and immediate fan favorite. He was of a race of aliens known as Zabraks, and fans were instantly dazzled by his striking facial tattoos and double-sided light saber.
Fits like a modern unisex adult Extra Large. There is a rubber patch on the sleeve.
