This vintage navy blue t-shirt features an embroidered graphic celebrating the 1996 Summer Olympic Games, which took place in Atlanta, Georgia. These games marked the centennial of the 1896 Games held in Athens, which were the inaugural edition of the modern day Olympics. This was also the first Summer Games to be held during a different year than the Winter Olympics since 1924, as the International Olympic Committee had implemented a new rule in 1994 stating that the two events would take place on alternating even-numbered years. 197 different National Olympic Committees competed, including 24 countries making their Summer Olympics debut, eleven of which were Soviet Republics competing for the first time as independent nations. The United States won the most gold medals with a total of 44.
