This awesome promotional tee is from the 1997 science fiction comedy, Flubber, starring the beloved late comedian Robin Williams, who was known throughout the 90s for his roles in such classic family films as Hook, Mrs. Doubtfire, and Jumanji. The movie was a remake of the 1961 film The Absent Minded Professor, and it told the story of a wacky scientist and his off-the-wall invention that he creates in the hopes of saving the local college where he works. The movie was a great commercial success, despite its poor reviews.
The movie's script was written by the talented John Hughes known for his slew of memorable 80s films like Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Breakfast Club, and Weird Science. Williams was Hughes' first choice to portray the lead, Professor Philip Brainard, but production was unsure if the actor would sign on to the film. Flubber was produced by Walt Disney Pictures, a studio that Williams had previously stated he wouldn't work with again, following a disagreement over the use of his voice talents in the movie Aladdin. Hughes lined up a few other prospective choices for the movie including Tim Allen, Christopher Lloyd, Jeff Goldblum, and John Lithgow, but as soon as Williams made peace with Disney, he was approached with the role.
Williams' involvement also helped to secure Christopher McDonald as the movie's villain, Wilson Croft. McDonald was iffy about taking on the role, but once he heard Williams would be involved he was on board, explaining that he had always wanted to work alongside the legendary comedian.
