This super cool vintage tie-dye t-shirt is for the delightfully unique and revolutionary French progressive rock band Magma. Magma, formed in 1969 by classical Parisian drummer Christian Vander, is credited for inventing their own subgenre of prog rock: Zeuhl. The term comes from the Kobaian language, an entirely made up musical language invented by Vander and the language that most of Magma's songs are written in. Most magma albums are considered rock operas and follow a sci-fi fantasy story of a group of people fleeing Earth take refuge on the planet Kobaia.

Zeuhl is not an easy genre to define, but it's very basic translation is "celestial" and the sound of the music is often described as dark, ominous, ethereal, and oppressive. Multiple other French bands around the same time adopted the genre and it continues to have a cult-following of passionate fans. Well-known fans of Magma include the likes of Johnny Rotton of the Sex Pistols fame, heavy metal vocalist Kristoffer Rygg, and Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth.

The band, who've been active for over 50 years,  have gone through many line-up changes and experimented with more commercially appealing music in their later years. In 2017, filmmaker Laurent Goldstein directed a documentary film about the group called To Life, Death, and Beyond- The Music of Magma which focuses on the backgrounds of the original band members and their journey as progressive rock pioneers.

Kobaïan is a lyrical language created by French drummer and composer Christian Vander for his progressive rock band Magma.[15][16][17] It is the language of Kobaïa, a fictional planet invented by Vander and the setting for a musical "space opera" sung in Kobaïan by Magma on fifteen concept albums.[3][18][19]

In 2017, documentary filmmaker Laurent Goldstein directed To Life, Death and Beyond – The Music of Magma. Interviewees include Christian Vander, Stella Vander, James MacGaw, Trey Gunn, Robert Trujillo, and Jello Biafra.[53]
