This tee features the CB radio, invented in 1945 by Al Gross, the inventor of walkie-talkies and owner of Citizens Radio Corporation. Known as the Class D Citizens' Radio Service, CB radios allowed for personal and business communication with a range of several miles. It was popular among workers who needed the radio as a tool to communicate like electricians, carpenters.
Because of the 1973 oil crisis, the newly enforced nationwide speed limit led drivers to discover they could communicate via CB radios to inform each other where police were set up, gas station locations, and ask for roadside help.
Truck drivers are known for their frequent use of CB radios to communicate and organize convoys. They, along with radio hobbyists, developed extensive CB slang language and emergency codes
