This awesome tee honors the survivors of Hurricane Iwa on the Hawaiian island Kauai in November of 1982. The graphic on this tee combines the meteorological symbol for a hurricane and a bird because Iwa is the Hawaiian name for a frigatebird, a type of seabird native to the islands. Hurricane Iwa devastated Kauai and the islands of Niihau and Oahu. Four deaths were linked to the hurricane and 500 people were left homeless. Iwa hit only two days before Thanksgiving but many Hawaiians decided to celebrate regardless by cooking turkeys on makeshift, outdoor grills with the rations delivered by the US Military.
