Born in 1952 in Poteet, Texas, country music was all around young George. In 1971 he eloped with his high school sweetheart, Norma Voss, in Mexico. That same year he enlisted in the United States Military as an infantryman, and began performing with a band.

He has sold more than 100 million records worldwide and been nominated and won more CMA and ACM awards than anyone else. They even made his birthday, May 18, "George Strait Day," in Texas.
