This NHL All-Star Game was hosted by the Pittsburgh Penguins at Civic Arena, their home turf. All-star players from the Wales conference faced off with the top players of the Campbell conference. Ultimately, the guys from Wales took home the title scoring 12-7. Penguins legend Mario Lemieux won the MVP.

The 1990 All-Star Game brought the addition of two new segments of the game; Heroes of Hockey, an oldtimers' game between NHL greats of the past, and National Hockey League All-Stars Skills Competition which is played between the players.
