This awesome shirt features a portrait of the iconic British musician Elton John, sporting his signature over-sized sunglasses. This shirt is from the 1970s, when John first started making a splash in the music scene. This eventual icon started his career as a pub pianist. At the age of just 15, he entertained patrons at the Northwood Hills Hotel, and it was around this time that John began wearing horn-rimmed glasses in an attempt to imitate rock and roll pioneer, Buddy Holly. Not long after that, John began working as a songwriter for other musicians, and he met and formed a partnership with Bernie Taupin, who has remained his collaborator for many decades.

Elton John began recording and releasing his own music in the late 60s, with his debut Empty Sky, and from there his career took off. His eponymous second album introduced the singer to the American market, and also earned him a Grammy Award nomination for Album of the Year. John spent the remainder of the 1970s releasing a number of hit albums that included Honky Chateau, Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, and Caribou. He also established his own record label, Rocket Records Ltd. which was named after his popular song "Rocket Man".

The 1970s were the peak of John's critical success as a rockstar, but his legacy has endured for many years. Elton John has composed the soundtracks for multiple award-winning musicals including The Lion King and Billy Elliot. He's also been an outspoken activist in the fight against AIDS and established his own charity, the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
