This amazing vintage shirt celebrates the feminist artist space the Women's Interart Center, which was first established in 1970. The Interart Center used to reside at 549 W. 52nd Street in New York City and it was used as a gallery space and a classroom for workshops for women artists.

The Interart Center was established with the help of the artist collective Women Artists in Revolution also known as WAR. The group requested a grant of $55,000 from the New York State Council of the Arts, and they wanted to use that money to fund a five story building that would provide space for administrative offices, gallery shows, and workshops. The proposal for the grant was initially turned down, but a demonstration held by WAR members prompted them to get approved for $5,000 instead. This was enough money to found the center on the 9th and 10 floors of their 52nd Street location.

Over the years the center continued to receive some annual funding from the New York State Council on the Arts, and they hosted a variety of exhibitions and events including theatrical performances, poetry readings, film screenings, and lectures which all showcased women in the arts.
