This sweet deadstock movie tee promotes the 1998 Godzilla film starring Matthew Broderick. This American monster movie was a reboot of the beloved kaiju franchise, Godzilla created by Toho Co., Ltd. and it was the first film in the franchise to be produced entirely by a Hollywood studio. The movie was dedicated to the memory of Tomoyuki Tanaka, the co-creator and producer of the first ever Godzilla movie in 1954. Tomoyuki passed away roughly one year before the release of the reboot.
While the 1998 Godzilla was universally panned by critics, the movie still produced an impressive profit, nearly matching the Memorial Day weekend sales of the blockbuster hit Mission: Impossible, which had set record sales two years prior. While some fans criticized the rebooted design of the titular kaiju, the movie did receive the award for Best Special Effects at the 25th Saturn Awards. The special effects for the movie were created by Patrick Tatopoulus and his effects studio, and Tatopoulus is also the last name of movie's main character.
