This awesome vintage shirt celebrates one of the most iconic and influential bands in the history of rock and roll, the Beatles. The group was first formed in Liverpool, England in 1960 and consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison. The Beatles were only active for ten short years, but during that time they reached international fame and became leading figures in the development of 1960s counterculture.
This shirt is from the 80s, long after the group had disbanded, and it features a portrait of the group from the early 1970s around the time that they released their final studio album together, Let It Be. This portrait of the band was used as the cover sleeve for a 1989 UK release of their single "Don't Let Me Down" which had been recorded during the 1969 sessions for Let It Be. The song was included as a B-side to their other single "Get Back", which topped the US Billboard chart upon its release, while "Don't Let Me Down" only made it to the number 35 spot. "Get Back" wound up being included on Let It Be, while "Don't Let Me Down" was scrapped until the 2003 release of an alternate mix of the album titled Let It Be...Naked.
"Don't Let Me Down" was also featured in the 1970 documentary film Let It Be, which chronicled the band rehearsing and recording the songs for the album of the same name. The footage of the Beatles performing the song that was used in the movie, was taken from the impromptu concert that they performed on the roof of their Apple Corps headquarters during the January of 1969. Another documentary detailing both the rooftop concert and the band's 1969 recording sessions for Let It Be was released in 2021 under the name The Beatles: Get Back.
Fits like a modern unisex adult large. There are several small holes in the sleeve and a small run on the back near the bottom, see pics.
