As the band's lyricist, Morrison wrote meaningful and poetic lyrics that have endured long past his untimely death in 1973. After graduating from UCLA in 1965, Morrison led a rebellious and carefree lifestyle in Venice Beach, California, where the Doors would eventually form. Their first single, "Light My Fire," spent three weeks as the number one single on the Billboard 100 chart. By the release of their second album, Strange Days, the Doors were one of the most popular rock 'n roll bands in the country, blending blues and psychedelic rock.
