This sweet vintage movie shirt is for the independent film Slam. The movie stars and was co-written by Saul Williams and Sonja Sohn. Williams plays a young man named Raymon "Ray" Joshua who has a talent for poetry and dreams of being a rapper. Ray is hampered by the conditions of his neighborhood and social background and he winds up going to jail for possession of a controlled substance. The film presents a number of powerful ideas, commenting on the way under privileged communities are manipulated into fighting amongst each other in order to divert attention away from the system oppressing them. Slam won the Grand Jury Prize for Dramatic Film at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival and was also presented the Camera d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival that same year.
The back of the shirt highlights the movie's hip hop soundtrack which was released by Epic Records and produced by DJ Spooky. The soundtrack reached number 84 on the Billboard 200 and some of the tracks included are "Cake B" by Bonz Malone, "Feel My Gat Blow" performed by Mobb Deep, and "Take a Walk in My Shoes" performed by Flipmode Squad and featuring Busta Rhymes. Other tracks are performed by Big Punisher & Next, Most Wanted featuring Pras, Brand Nubian, Dead Prez, and Ol' Dirty Bastard and Coolio.
