This sweet vintage t-shirt is for the English progressive rock supergroup Emerson, Lake & Palmer. This tee most likely came from the band's 1977-78 tour which was in promotion of Works Volumes 1 and 2. ELP was one of the most successful prog rock bands of the 70s and they were known for their unconventional music that incorporated elements of classical and jazz. Some of their biggest hits include "Lucky Man," "Tarkus," and "Still... You Turn Me On." In addition to their success as part of the group, the three musicians are remembered as legends in their own right. Emerson, who was a strong creative force in the band, has gone down in history as one of the most accomplished keyboardists of all time.
Emerson, Lake & Palmer's 1977-78 tour was extremely ambitious. The band was fresh off of a three-year hiatus and Emerson in particular wanted to do something different for this tour. ELP hired a full, hand-picked orchestra and choir to accompany them on their 120-date tour. This proved to be unreasonable almost immediately due to budget constraints. The orchestra was shelved after only 18 shows, but it was included in the 1979 Emerson, Lake & Palmer in Concert live album which was recorded during the orchestra's final concert.
ELP split at the end of the 70s but would continue to reunite on occasion over the next several years. Both Emerson and Lake passed away in 2016, leaving Palmer as the only surviving member of the band. Emerson, Lake & Palmer had a wide sphere of influence that reached outside of the prog rock genre. Video game soundtrack composers, like Nintendo's Koji Kondo and Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu, cite ELP as major influences on their work.
