This awesome vintage t-shirt reps the 1992 United States men's Olympic Basketball team, affectionately nicknamed the "Dream Team" because of their overwhelming success. During the 1992 Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona, the Dream Team became the first American Olympic team to feature active professional athletes. The team was stocked full of a number of impressive NBA players and the lineup consisted of Christian Laettner, David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, Larry Bird, Scottie Pippen, Michael Jordan, Clyde Drexler, Karl Malone, John Stockton, Chris Mullin, Charles Barkey, and Magic Johnson. Coached by Chuck Daly, the team defeated each of its opponents by an average of 44 points, before they eventually earned the gold medal in the final game against Croatia.
Laettner was the only non NBA player on the team, as the US Basketball Committee chose to select one collegiate player. Laettner wound up getting chosen over a young Shaquille O'Neal. In the year prior to the Olympics, Magic Johnson had retired from the NBA after he tested positive for HIV. His selection for the team served as a beacon of hope for Johnson, who felt this was proof that his life was not over. Both Johnson and Bird acted as co-captains, after Jordan declined the offer to be the public face of the team.
Fits like a modern unisex adult medium. There is discoloration on the back, see pics.
