This amazing double-sided tee pays tribute to one of Marvel Comics' most iconic characters, Wolverine. This mutant superhero is often seen fighting alongside the X-Men, although he's also characterized as a gruff loner. Wolverine first appeared during the Bronze Age of comics in 1974, where he was shown in the last panel of The Incredible Hulk #180. After the Vietnam War, writers began exploring brooding antihero characters that reflected the disillusioned post-war attitude of Americans. Wolverine became a quintessential example of the standard comic book antihero, as well as a fan favorite among X-Men readers.
This shirt was made in the 90s, when Wolverine was heavily featured in the X-Men: Legacy comic book series. He was also a central character in X-Men: The Animated Series, which aired on Fox Kids from 1992 until 1997. This show wound up being Marvel's first animated show centered around the X-Men, and it introduced many of the characters, including Wolverine, to a larger audience.
