This amazing vintage shirt features a Keith Haring original, his famous Three Eyed Smiling Face. Over the years many people have speculated over the hidden meaning behind this image, but according to Haring himself he simply left too much space between the eyes while drawing a smiley face, and chose to fill it in. Keith Haring was a talented pop artist, whose imagery came to be immediately recognizable by many. Along with motifs like radiant baby and barking dog, three eyed smiling face is one of Haring's many famous images.
Haring's work emerged out of the graffiti subculture of New York City, and he spent the early 80s making massive chalk drawings on unused advertising backboards in subway stations throughout the city. Haring gained gradual notoriety for his work, which was iconic and memorable thanks to his simple yet distinctive style, and he moved from creating graffiti to exhibiting in local galleries. Once Haring began to exhibit his work, his career really took off. His art was showcased alongside other artistic titans like Jean-Michel Basquiat, Cy Twombly, and Andy Warhol, and his work began to be used in a variety of different ways. Haring's artwork was displayed in murals, on t-shirts, on magazine covers for publications like Vanity Fair, on the spectacolor billboard in Times Square, and even on a skirt worn by pop sensation Madonna.

By the end of the decade Haring had become a household name, displaying work in over a hundred exhibitions and producing more than 50 public art pieces that were showcased in places like hospitals, day care centers, and orphanages. Keith Haring died of medical complications in the winter of 1990. Haring's death was a direct result of his positive HIV status, and he had spent the later years of his life raising awareness and advocating for those affected by AIDS. This incredible vintage find is one of the many remaining pieces of art left behind by this legendary artist.
