This amazing jacket is a vintage military issue N-3B parka, designed specially to protect against extreme cold weather conditions. The N-3B was developed in the late 50s for use by the US Air Force, but the design was later copied and sold through army surplus stores, which made it popular among civilians for both its style and practicality. This jacket is labeled as a TYPE N-3B/F MIL-J-3786J, and the DSA number dates it to around the mid 60s, during the time of the Vietnam War. However, a jacket like this would have been used by flight crews stationed in areas much colder than the jungles of Vietnam.

This jacket is dubbed the snorkel parka thanks to its hood, which can be zippered closed until the wear only has a small snorkel to see out of. It has a water resistant shell, synthetic fur-lined hood, and both toggle button and zipper closures. The quilted lining and drawstring waist allows the wearer to lock in extra body heat, making this jacket an amazingly functional piece of vintage fashion.
