This amazing vintage tee is a keepsake from the Who Put the Boot In tour featuring The Who as headliners. Other acts included the Sensational Alex Harvey Band, Little Feat, Outlaws, and Streetwalkers. This tee was from one of three concerts given in the UK during the summer of 1976. The concert series toured through British and French football stadiums and it was actually a series within the larger, The Who by Numbers tour that the band had been on since the previous year.
The show at Charlton Football Club in London is remembered as one of the Who's best performances ever. It had actually been raining all day, not unusual for London, and some of the other bands struggled to perform their best in the inclement weather. However, being from Britain and used to the rain, the Who still put on a stellar show. They broke the record at the time for the loudest concert ever with sound readings measuring at 120 decibels, which is comparable to sound levels of a jet during take off.
In addition to laying claim to one of the loudest concerts on record, the Who Put the Boot in tour was among the last shows with drummer Keith Moon. Moon passed away less than two years later and his last public performance was given in October of 1976 at the end of The Who by Numbers tour. John Entwistle, the band's bassist, has said that he believes the Who reached their live performance peak during this series of tours.
