This awesome vintage shirt celebrates the mutant superhero group X-Factor, which was showcased in a series of eponymous comic books in the 80s and 90s. The group was composed of several beloved members of Marvel Comics' X-Men, and this shirt shows off the original members of the X-Factor team, which consisted of Angel, Beast, Cyclops, Marvel Girl and Iceman. The illustration on this tee was made in 1988, and later used as the cover for a compilation of French translations for X-Factor issues #36-42. One big indicator that this graphic dates back to 1988, is the inclusion of Archangel, with his blue skin and metal wings. Angel was given these cosmetic adjustments by Apocalypse, who tried to make the hero into one of his Four Horseman. After breaking from Apocalypse's control, the hero rejoined X-Factor under the new name of Archangel.
X-Factor was just one of several X-Men spin-off series that was started during the 80s. It was during that era, that X-Men became Marvel's top-selling title, and several spin-offs were launched to capitalize on that success. In 1988 X-Factor was written and drawn by the husband and wife team of Louise and Walter Simonson. During this time, Louise Simonson was also writing for another X-Men series, New Mutants.
