This 1992 release was the band's sixth studio album, and it spent a whopping 76 weeks on the Billboard charts. By 1993, the album had gone triple platinum, and it marked Soul Asylum as one of the most commercially successful rock groups of the early 90s. This album featured the singles "Somebody to Shove", "Black Gold", and what has arguably become the band's signature hit, "Runaway Train".

"Runaway Train" was one of the driving factors behind the album's success and it earned the band a Grammy Award for best rock song at the 1994 awards. The band's immense success during this time also earned them an invitation to play at the presidential inauguration of Bill Clinton, and the follow up to Grave Dancers Union, Let Your Dim Light Shine, also went platinum.
