This sweet band t-shirt was made by the popular merchandising company Winterland Productions, which originated as a joint venture between legendary concert promoter Bill Graham, and music business executive Dell Furano. The company was named after the iconic Southern California concert venue the Winterland Ballroom, where it began as a simple t-shirt stand.
This shirt pays tribute to one of the many legendary acts to grace the Winterland stage, Led Zeppelin, and it features the iconic Icarus logo, which became synonymous with the group after they adapted it for their label Swan Song Records. The Icarus logo is actually based on the painting "Evening (The Fall of Day)" by William Rimmer, but it was redrawn for Led Zeppelin by Joe Petagno, the same artist responsible for creating the iconic War-Pig logo for the band Motorhead.
Led Zeppelin released their first album off of the Swan Song label in 1975. The album, which was titled Physical Graffiti, was a massive commercial success, and it was supported by a five-night residency at Earl's Court in London.
