The 101st has been referred to as the "tip of the spear" of the US Army and is generally considered to be one of the most tactically important divisions. The 101st specializes in air assault operations using vertical take-off and landing aircrafts, such as helicopters. Since its founding in 1918, the Screaming Eagles have played important roles in several notable military operations such as D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge, as well as various campaigns in Vietnam. The Screaming Eagles are based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky and many of their current members are graduates of the renowned US Army Air Assault School, which is known for having some of the Army's most difficult courses.
