This sweet double-sided tee is for the iconic rapper, Sir Mix-a-Lot, who is arguably best known for his number one hit "Baby Got Back". The song was released as a single on the artist's third studio album Mack Daddy, which was released in 1992, and this shirt is from around the time of the album's release and its subsequent promotional tour. Mack Daddy was recorded after the rapper was signed to Def American Recordings headed by Rick Rubin, and the smash hit success of "Baby Got Back" took the Seattle based rapper totally by surprise.

Sir Mix-a-Lot was on tour in Panama City when the song hit number one, and he heard the good news when he stumbled upon a massive crowd of people gathered outside the club he was supposed to perform at that evening. The single spent an impressive five weeks at the top of the Billboard chart, and it was even the second best-selling single of 1992, right after Whitney Houston's classic cover of "I Will Always Love You".

Reflecting back on the song, Sir Mix-a-Lot explained that the lyrics weren't just supposed to be about his love of rotund booties. The rapper elaborated that "Baby Got Back" was supposed to be a celebration of women with curves, who he felt were being overlooked. The famous spoken intro to the song featured the rapper's girlfriend at the time, Amylia Dorsey-Rivas, and Sir Mix-a-Lot saw her experience in the modeling industry as a first-hand example of how full-figured women were overlooked in the 90s. While that was the original  inspiration behind the song, it was possibly the tongue-in-cheek music video, which featured a 50 foot tall giant butt, and the song's upbeat tempo, which really helped to propel it to number one.
