This sweet vintage t-shirt showcases one of the most notorious villains in the history of the DC Comics universe. The shirt pays tribute to the "clown prince of crime", the Joker, who is the famous arch-nemesis of Batman. The Joker made his first appearance almost a year after Batman was introduced in Detective Comics #27, and the initial plan was for the character to be killed off after a single appearance. Editorial intervention lead to him instead becoming the number one enemy of Batman and Robin.
This shirt was made in the 1980s, when both the Joker and Batman comics in general were given a darker, more gritty tone. The Joker played a major role in some of the most memorable and brutal Batman storylines of the decade, including "A Death in the Family" and the 1988 seminal graphic novel The Killing Joke. The joker also served as the main villain of the 1989 live action Batman film, in which he was portrayed by Jack Nicholson.
Fits like a modern unisex adult medium. This shirt is deadstock, unworn
