This amazing piece of Marvel Comics merch is a packaged t-shirt from Comic Images, and it showcases the iconic superhero Black Panther. The king of the fictional African nation of Wakanda, Black Panther was one of the many original Marvel characters to be created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. His first appearance was during the Silver Age of Comic Books, when he was introduced in a 1966 issue of Fantastic Four.

The graphic pictured here is from a four issue miniseries that was released in 1988. The image was created by Denys Cowan and Sam De La Rosa and used for the cover of series' third installment. A prominent figure in the black comics community, Cowan would later become a producer of the first season of Aaron McGruder's The Boondocks, and he also co-founded Milestone Media, the company that went on to develop the Static Shock animated series.

While Black Panther wasn't one of Marvel's most popular characters in the late 80s, he later became the first black superhero to tap into the mainstream American comics market. The character's legacy was also solidified in the MCU's 2018 Black Panther film starring Chadwick Boseman.
