This was the rock singer's eleventh studio album, and his fourth one backed by the Silver Bullet Band. The record also featured the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, much like several of his past albums. Against the Wind enjoyed six weeks at the top of the Billboard chart, and it even managed to knock Pink Floyd's seminal album, The Wall, from the top spot.

Released in 1980, Against the Wind marked the height of Seger's commercial success, although the artist has enjoyed a long career that's featured several memorable hits. Seger is considered a shining example of the heartland rock genre and some of his most beloved songs include "Night Moves", "Still the Same", "Hollywood Nights", "Mainstreet", and "You'll Accomp'ny Me".
