The sport of windsurfing was actually invented in California during the late 60s by a man named Jim Drake. The sport took off quickly in both North America and Europe. By the end of the 70s, it was the fastest growing sport in the world and it became an Olympic sport in 1984, less than 20 years after Drake first patented the idea.
