This double-sided concert tee celebrates the band U2, and it was made to commemorate a promotional tour for their 1983 album, War. This was the group's third studio album, and it marked the beginning of the band's venture into overtly political themes. The album's political nature is best remembered through the hit singles "Sunday Bloody Sunday" which centers around the 1972 Bloody Sunday incident in Derry, Ireland and "New Year's Day" which was inspired by the Polish Solidarity movement.

War helped the Irish band to gain worldwide recognition as "New Year's Day" became their first commercial hit outside of the UK. This growing interest in the group allowed them to play progressively larger venues over the course of the War Tour. The band also became known for their live shows, which involved lead singer Bono attempting to engage the audience with various theatrical stunts. This tee features the image of a white flag, which Bono would wave during performances of "Sunday Bloody Sunday".
