The water printed graphic has aged well, featuring the iconic guitar and dove logo. Billed as the Aquarian Exposition: 3 Days of Peace & Music, the festival has come to be one of the most memorable moments in the history of music in the U.S., and a defining moment for the counterculture of the 1960s.

After a last-minute location change to Bethel, New York, festival planners vastly underestimated the unprecedented sizes of the crowds, ceding to allow free entry to the masses coming up the hill. Over the course of the 3 days, festival goers saw the likes of Arlo Guthrie, Joan Baez, Janis Joplin, Country Joe McDonald, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and Jimi Hendrix to close the festival.

All of Woodstock '69 was recorded for the documentary film, Woodstock, directed by Michael Wadleigh. The filmmakers had trouble finding funding, eventually winning over an executive at Warner Bros., and the crew took to Bethel to document the festival. The film has since been inducted into the Library of Congress National Film Registry.

Fits like a modern unisex adult medium. Shirt is distressed, original from 1969. The shirt bears one of the same woodcut images used for the cover of the group's album Stand Up. Stand Up was the band's second studio album, and the cover was designed by wood carver James Grashow, who followed the band around for a week so that he could properly capture the likeness of members Ian Anderson, Martin Lancelot Barre, Glenn Cornick, and Clive Bunker. Originally the cover to the album opened up like a children's pop up book so that a cut out of the band would stand up much like the title evoked. The design won the 1969 New Musical Express's award for best album artwork.

Stand Up was the first time that lead singer Ian Anderson was given full control over an album project, and the result was an eclectic album that still had hints of the blues influences heard in the groups first album, This Was. The album featured a variety of other styles and unique instruments asw ell, and The song "Fat Man" included Anderson playing mandolin, marking one of the first times the instrument had been used by a rock band. Anderson has also been quoted saying that Stand Up is his personal favorite explaining, "that was my first album of first really original music".

Stand Up granted the band commercial success, reaching the top spot on the UK charts. They began touring regularly in the UK and US, making an appearance at the Newport Jazz Festival. They were also extended an invitation to perform at Woodstock, although Anderson declined, afraid the band would be permanently associated with the hippie movement. The band would begin recording their following album Auqalung by the end of 1970.

Fits like a modern unisex adult small.

20-09-107111
Chest 16.5 in.

Length 22 in.

Content: 100% cotton

Tag Brand: Unbranded

This amazing vintage tee reps the Beatles with a graphic of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison. This shirt most likely came from Germany and was perhaps made for a fan club. There were dozens of Beatles fan clubs worldwide but Germany held a special flame for the fab four. The Beatles really got their start playing in clubs in Hamburg, beginning with a residency at the Indra Club in 1960. Here, the band played for 5-6 hours every night and they were able to perfect their sound. By practicing non-stop in front of a live audience, the Beatles were able to achieve unheard of success.

Beatles fans were like no others at the time. The term "Beatlemania" was used to describe the extreme fanaticism that seemed to spread like wildfire all over the world. John Lennon once remarked in an interview that the Beatles had become "more popular than Jesus" which may have been a bold statement but not a wholly untrue one. Millions of screaming fans would watch the band on TV, flock to their performances, and track them down in public. The Beatles regularly drove to and from events in armored cars to protect themselves and their fans from doing something dangerous.

The Beatles' career can be split between the touring years and the recording years. Once the band stopped touring and began to focus on evolving their music, their fans became more subdued but just as dedicated. One of the last, major events for fans came with the world premiere of the Beatles' film Yellow Submarine in London. It was 1968, meaning the Beatles were less than two years away from splitting up, but their fans remained enraptured by their idols. Many remember feeling as if they were "in the presence of God" and they recall that it was surprisingly quiet, as if everyone was too in awe to scream.

Fits like a modern unisex adult small.
