Drag racing is a type of vehicle racing that was popularized in the mid 20th century. It was popular among WWII vets and early drag races took place at decommissioned aircraft base landing strips. Drag racing falls under the purview of organizations like the National Hot Rod Association, which was founded in the early 50s, and the International Hot Rod Association that was founded 20 years later.
There are hundreds of drag racing classes. Some of these classes include Top Fuel Funny Car, Pro Stock Motorcycle, and Top Fuel Dragster. Dragsters are generally among the fastest accelerating vehicles in the world. The fastest of these cars can cover a 1,000 foot run in less than four seconds. They can hit speeds to 100 mph in less than one second. Since these vehicles can go so fast, official dragster races are limited to the 1,000 foot track instead of the 1/4 mile tracks uses in other drag racing classes.
