This incredible vintage tee is a rare find from the Washington D.C. hardcore scene, and it was made back in 1981. This shirt was printed for Dischord Records to celebrate one of the label's earliest releases, a 1981 EP titled In My Eyes, which was recorded by the band Minor Threat. Dischord Records was founded by Minor Threat members Ian MacKaye and Jeff Nelson. The pair met while attending what used to be Wilson High School and they gained recognition within the local scene through their band The Teen Idles. They then used the money they earned through the group to launch their own independent label.

Nelson also created work as a graphic designer, and he was responsible for the visuals for both The Teen Idols and Minor Threat. This shirt was screen printed by Nelson himself, and it was part of an extremely limited run of tees made for the EP release. This shirt is one of only fifty that were originally made. While the design was eventually revived and reprinted, subsequent prints featured the address of Dischord Records, 3819 Beecher St. NW Washington, DC.

From these humble beginnings, Dischord Records eventually grew from a small DIY label into one of the most notable independent labels in punk history, right alongside labels such as Alternative Tentacles and Epitaph Records. They went on to produce recordings for a myriad of bands that included Void, Iron Cross, Scream, S.O.A. Gray Matter, Dag Nasty, Lungfish, Government Issue, The Faith, Jawbox, Marginal Man, Shudder to Think, and Fugazi.

Minor Threat would also involve into one of the most influential hardcore bands in not just D.C., but the world. They became especially known for their song "Straight Edge" which was also first released through Dischord Records. This seminal punk song gave a name to one of hardcore punk's most prominent subcultures and it also placed Minor Threat at the forefront of the movement.
