This amazing vintage tee features a graphic of a Polynesian double-hulled canoe sailing in front of a volcano and a sunset. Underneath the graphic reads, "Hawaii." Polynesian societies are known for their wayfinding, or navigational, skills that go back thousands of years. It's believed that ancestral Polynesians used wayfinding and double-hulled canoes to navigate between islands in the Pacific, resulting in the native communities that now call islands like Hawaii home.

In the 1970s, in an effort to better understand the potential origins of Oceanic people, the Polynesian Voyaging Society reconstructed a Polynesian double-hulled canoe and called her Hokule'a. Satawalese Master Navigator, Mau Piailug shared his traditional knowledge of non-instrument navigation with the Society and he navigated for the inaugural voyage of Hokule'a, which went from Hawaii to Tahiti in a little over one month.
