This vintage concert shirt is from the 1989 concert benefit for AIDS relief titled In Concert Against AIDS. The benefit included a number of concerts and events spread out over the course of several days and at different venues. This included a comedy show at the Warfield Theatre featuring Bobcat Goldwait and Tom Kenny, a kick off party with Huey Lewis and the News, a cabaret night at Club Fugazi, a dance concert, a Latin show headlined by Linda Ronstadt, a gospel show featuring the LA Mass Choir, and the world's longest conga line. The main event of the benefit took place on Saturday May 27 and it was a nine and a half hour marathon rock concert headlined by the Grateful Dead at Oakland Stadium. Other featured performers for the concert were John Fogerty of Creedance Clearwater Revival, Tracy Chapman, Los Lobos, Joe Satriani, and Tower of Power.

The benefit was organized by Graham and Tim McQuaid and all proceeds from the event went towards AIDS education and support organizations. Given the scale of the show and the notoriety of the musicians performing, the McQuaids expected the show to be a surefire sellout. Unfortunately misinformation about the disease at the time of the concert lead to a lot of unfounded fear, and it's likely concert-goers were discouraged from attending because of the stigma surrounding AIDS in the 1980s.
