Celebrated from December 26th to January 1st, Kwanzaa originated in 1966 in the wake of the Watts Riots in Los Angeles. It was created by the black separatist leader Maulana Karenga, who wanted to create a winter holiday that centered around black history and culture.

This tee is from a 1981 celebration, which is the year that Jose Ferrer began organizing to popularize the holiday. Ferrer was the senior vice president of the New York Urban Coalition, and he used this position to support his efforts. He became the founder of Kwanzaa Fest, a New York-based holiday expo that bills itself as the world's largest celebration of African American culture.

Fits like a modern unisex adult medium.
