This sweet vintage ringer commemorates the 1980 edition of the Long Beach Grand Prix, or as it was known at the time, the Toyota Grand Prix of the United States. The longest running major street race in North America, the Long Beach Grand Prix originated as a Formula 5000 race in 1975. The following year, it was changed to a Formula One event, and it remained a Formula One race until 1983.
The annual Grand Prix helped draw a considerable number of tourists to the Long Beach area. Around the mid 20th Century, Long Beach was considered an uneventful, industrial port city, but racing fans quickly discovered that Long Beach offered beautiful weather and a convenient proximity to Los Angeles. This shirt also features another attraction responsible for drawing tourists to the area, the RMS Queen Mary, which was a historic ocean liner that was purchased and permanently moored by the city.
The tag says medium, but this shirt fits like a modern unisex adult small. There are some spots on the front, see pics.
