This cool tourist shirt was made in the 80s to celebrate the great state of Tennessee and it features the region's nickname, "The Volunteer State", a moniker it first earned during the War of 1812. During the war, an impressive number of young men from Tennessee volunteered to support the troops against the British at the Battle of New Orleans. Later the state gave this same enthusiastic response when they were asked to help during the war for Texas Independence in 1835. Tennessee's reputation as the Volunteer State even helped to inspire the name of the athletic teams at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
