This awesome tee is for the British new wave band The Beat, who later came to be known as the English Beat, as a way to differentiate them from the American power pop group of the same name. This shirt is from the band's early days and it features a graphic of their iconic logo, the Beat Girl. This groovy logo was designed by Hunt Emerson, who modeled the Beat Girl off a 1960s photograph of a woman dancing with the Jamaican singer, Prince Buster. The Beat's Dave Wakeling has been quoted saying that the original hope behind the Beat Girl design, was that it would draw more women to their early shows, a trick which apparently worked as some women even came dressed in Beat Girl costumes.
The Beat released their first album in 1980, titled I Just Can't Stop It. This two-tone ska album made it to the number three spot on the UK charts, and it featured notable singles like "Can't Get Used to Losing you", "Mirror in the Bathroom", "Hands Off...She's Mine", and "Best Friend".
Fits like a modern unisex adult medium. There are small holes throughout and some spots on the front, see pics.
