This sweet vintage shirt honors the United States Coast Guard, and it refers to the Armed Forces branch as "the Lifesavers". The Coast Guard was actually formed in 1915 by an Act that effectively merged the US Life-Saving Service with the Revenue Cutter Service. They are perhaps best known for their Search and Rescue operations, and over the years the Coast Guard has issued hundreds of Lifesaving Medal awards. These decorations are awarded for rescuing or attempting to rescue anyone from drowning, shipwreck, or other perils in the water.
