This awesome vintage tee honors what some have referred to as "the thinking man's heavy metal band" Blue Oyster Cult. Founded in the late 60s, Blue Oyster Cult have long been celebrated for their occult and fantasy inspired lyrics and their fusion of hard rock and psychedelia. This shirt was made in the 90s, and its graphics pay tribute to two of the band's best known hits, "Godzilla" and "(Don't Fear) The Reaper".
The latter remains the band's highest charting single, although it first debuted on their 1976 album Agents of Fortune. Penned and sung by lead guitarist Buck Dharma, the song was notably featured in the seminal slasher film Halloween, and it was also the subject of Saturday Night Lives' iconic "More Cowbell" sketch featuring Christopher Walken.
Meanwhile, "Godzilla" was a sleeper hit that became a popular rock radio staple. The tongue-in-cheek tune was inspired by the Japanese monster movie of the same name, and fans of the band were anticipating its inclusion on the soundtrack to the first Godzilla movie to be completely produced by an American studio. When the 1998 Roland Emmerich film did not include the song, band members Dharma and Eric Bloom decided to record their own parody of the track called, "NoZilla".
