The Speedway President Tony George, and Bill France Jr., the president of NASCAR organized the inaugural Brickyard 400 to occur on August 6th, 1994. It was held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway which was first opened in 1909. The race held the largest crowd in all of NASCAR history. The race raked in a historic amount of money ending with a $3.2 million purse. Jeff Gordon, no. 24, won the Brickyard 400.
