This amazing graphic tee commemorates the Joffrey Ballet Company's 35th Anniversary in 1991. The Joffrey Ballet is one of the most prestigious dance companies in the world and it was founded by life partners Robert Joffrey and Gerald Arpino in the 1950s. Shortly after celebrating their 35th anniversary, the company found their permanent home in Chicago where they perform regularly. However, they also continue to tour all over the world. The Joffrey in Chicago should not be confused with the Joffrey Ballet School in New York City which is unaffiliated.
In honor of their 35th anniversary, the Joffrey Ballet went on a "celebration of new American choreography" tour. While on tour, the company performed classic ballets such as Kurt Joos' "The Green Table" and they also did Robert Joffrey's original ballet, "Postcards." The performances were lauded by critics. The 1990s were a time of struggle and financial difficulties for dance companies all over the world, so the Joffrey's milestone and successful tour were all the more impressive and worthy of celebration.
