This awesome shirt is a replica hockey jersey from the Canadian company, CCM and it reps "The Great One", Wayne Gretzky. Just as his nickname suggests, Gretzky is widely regarded as the greatest NHL player of all time, and this jersey commemorates his time playing for the Los Angeles Kings. Before joining the Kings, Gretzky was a top scorer in the 1978 World Junior Championships. He also played for the Edmonton Oilers both before and after the NHL-WHA merger, helping lead the team to four Stanley Cup victories.
It was a monumental event when Gretzky was traded to the Los Angeles Kings in 1988. Oilers owner, Peter Pocklington was in need of money, prompting him to shop his star player to other teams. Gretzky became involved in the negotiations and insisted that his teammates Marty McSorley and Mike Krushelnyski join him on the Kings. While Canadian hockey fans were less than thrilled about the trade, Gretzky's arrival in LA played a key role in popularizing hockey in California. It was with Gretzky's help that the Kings were able to score their first conference championship and make their first ever Stanley Cup appearance.
