This colorful graphic tee pays homage to Malcolm X, one of the great figures in African American history. The tee features an all over print and one of Malcolm X's most famous quotes, "by any means necessary," which he said in reference to his belief that Black people should do whatever they need to defend and advance themselves in society.
Malcolm X had a difficult childhood, shuffling between foster homes after his father's death and his mother's hospitalization. He spent some time in prison which was when he became a Muslim and joined the Nation of Islam. Malcolm remained an outspoken advocate for the Nation of Islam until the early 60s when he renounced his association with the group but remained a practicing Muslim.
Malcolm X stood in juxtaposition to other civil rights leaders, like Martin Luther King Jr., who advocated for non-violent protest. Malcolm took a more radical approach to Black liberation and he was not opposed to violence if he believed it necessary. His message resonated with many Black Americans who were tired of being told to wait for freedom and equality and, instead, wanted to fight for it. Malcolm X was assassinated in 1965 by members of the Nation of Islam who began targeting him after he renounced his association with the group. Malcolm X is still remembered as one of the most influential figures in Black history and his philosophies still resonate with many.
