This awesome vintage band tee celebrates the iconic goth rock and dark wave band the Sisters of Mercy, and it is a souvenir from the group's appearance at the Reading Rock Festival in 1991. The front of the shirt features the cover art from the band's I Was Wrong promo album while the back simply reads, Sisters Reading 25 Aug 91" to commemorate the festival. The Reading Rock Festival was a three day event in Reading, England with the Sisters of Mercy headlining the final day. They performed alongside other impressive acts such as Iggy Pop, Sonic Youth, Nirvana, and Nitzer Ebb.
The Sisters of Mercy were first formed in 1980 in Leeds, where they achieved underground success before experiencing their commercial breakthrough in the mid 80s. The band has gone through numerous lineup changes over the years with lead singer Andrew Eldritch and their drum machine, dubbed Doktor Avalanche, remaining the only consistent members.
The album referenced on this shirt, I Was Wrong, was released in 1991, same year as the festival. It contained a copy of the album's eponymous song as well as an interview between Eldtritch and journalist Danny Fields, who is famous among the music scene for having managed such iconic acts as The Ramones and Iggy and the Stooges. Around this time, the band also launched a controversial tour alongside the popular hip hop group Public Enemy.
