This sweet vintage shirt is a souvenir commemorating the 1994 Southern California Gay and Lesbian Exposition. The back of the shirt features a logo that says "Rage" which was likely a sponsor for the event, however there's nothing specifying what products this company sold. The Gay & Lesbian Expo was a three day event that was intended to help the LGBTQ community identify which companies supported gay rights. As the gay rights movements began to gain steady traction over time, companies began to prey on the community through rainbow capitalism. The 1994 Expo sought to make people aware of the companies who supported politicians and legislation that promoted discrimination, and instead introduce them to companies that practiced equality and tolerance.
In addition to over 200 exhibiting vendors, the event also featured live performances. This included an appearance by the Tony Award winning actress Jennifer Holliday, as well as an AIDS benefit featuring Fem2Fem, the first openly lesbian pop group to ever chart.
