This amazing tee was made for fans of the popular supernatural television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Created by Joss Whedon and based on the 1992 teen comedy of the same name, Buffy starred Sarah Michelle Gellar as a teenage vampire hunter living in southern California. While Gellar may have been the titular star, this shirt features Alyson Hannigan as Willow Rosenberg and Amber Benson as Tara Maclay, two of the series' most polarizing and impactful characters.
While Willow remained a central character throughout the show's seven seasons, Tara wasn't introduced until the tenth episode of season four, "Hush". By the end of the season, the pair were in a committed romantic relationship with one another, something that was unparalleled at the time for a prime time network TV show. For many fans, Willow and Tara were the first positive mainstream lesbian representation they'd ever seen, and their relationship resonated deeply with LGBTQ viewers. Sadly, they would also become one of the most notorious examples of the "bury your gays" trope.
Tara was killed off the show in season six, a decision that Whedon felt was necessary to further Willow's character, but he never predicted the strong fan response that followed. As elated as some fans were to see Tara and Willow together, they were equally devastated when Tara was killed off, and some even stopped watching. Regardless, this shirt commemorates a time when one of the most central couples on a mainstream television series was composed of two women.
Fits like a modern unisex adult large. There are some small holes throughout, see pics.
